💦 On November 18th, Quail Springs had the honor

💦 On November 18th, Quail Springs had the honor to host engaged Cuyama Valley residents, dedicated Cuyama groundwater advocates, and a member of Greywater Action for our inaugural Groundwater Forum.💧 We had a full day of discussing the numerous water issues Cuyama is facing, from groundwater adjudication to an incoming 170% price hike in water rates for residents of New Cuyama. The day of all-things-local-water included a tour of our greywater systems from Rachel Higgins, our Director of Facilities and Infrastructure, and a visit to our life-giving spring with Brenton Kelly, our Watershed Steward, to witness the ongoing riparian restoration Quail Springs has nurtured. This kind of community dialogue is necessary to uplift the groundwater water issues facing Cuyama’s critically overdrafted basin. We support the growing Cuyama Valley coalition of water stewards who are engaged in a grassroots effort to empower Cuyamans with the knowledge and confidence to participate in this critical fight for our shared water. We are incredibly grateful to @thefundforsantabarbara for including Quail Springs in their 2023 Spring grant cycle and financially supporting our mission of educating and empowering students of all ages and backgrounds, starting right here in the rural valley we call home. 💧💧💧💧💧💧 Just a little bit of the magic we will be be bringing from the dusty canyons of Quail Springs out to the grounds of @patagoniavta this Saturday, 11am to 4pm! Some baby goats, some face painting clowns, some banjo picking boot stomping muddy daughters singing, and some good times. There is a lot happening all across California and the world with water access and resource extraction. This Saturday we will be sharing about what our community is facing with water rights in the Cuyama Valley and how Quail Springs is working to contribute our share in amplifying sustainable and equitable policy and practices for a different future. We are grief stricken by the lives lost to ongoing violence in Gaza. As an organization based in the United States–a nation that endorses and funds this violence–we have a responsibility to speak out against the genocide and dismissal of humanitarian law being committed in our name, with our tax dollars. The people of Gaza are cut off from water, food, electricity, safe refuge, communications, and aid from neighboring allies as they are violently forced from their homes. We condemn violence against all civilians. We contribute our voices to a call for a ceasefire immediately. We stand with the people of Palestine. May the land and the people be freed of oppression.
